Dr. Sarkhan Badirli

Dr. Badirli received his B.Sc. in Mathematics from METU, Turkey and his M.Sc. degree in Applied Mathematics from ETH Zurich. He has participated in several International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO) and got bronze and silver medals from IMO 2008, and Jautykov Mathematical Olympiad 2008. He has received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science Department at Purdue University. His Ph.D studies involve broader areas of Machine Learning and Computer Vision. Dr. Badirli’s research focuses on Zero-shot learning/ Open set recognition with applications in image classification, DNA sequencing and remote sensing domains. His work has been published in top-tier ML/CV conferences like NeurIPS, ECCV, ICDAR etc. His recent work explores a more precise and scalable ML approach for monitoring biodiversity that can become instrumental in offering objective measures of impacts of recent changes our planet has been going through. Currently, he works as Machine Learning Research Scientist at Eli Lilly, Indianapolis.
